How
we came to know one another.....
and
some of the fun times we have had together.
There he
is. The first picture I ever saw of him.
Charlie
and I started out in 1997 with an occasional hello when he would happen to come
into the channel #new2mirc. Which, by the way, was not all that often,
what with me, being the the states, and he, being in Nederland, which also
constituted a 7 hour time zone difference.
After
exchanging the usual pleasantries,
he said that he was from Nederland. I told him I would be working there
in the near future. Well, that was about it for quite some time.
We didn't cross paths again until a few months later when I was already
in Nederland, 1998.
Charlie
came into #new2mirc once again. We again exchanged pleasantries and decided
to meet for coffee on a Sunday afternoon in June, in the city of Rotterdam.
Our
first impressions of each other were really quite comical, (someday that will
all come out 
) but we knew
immediately that we were definitely going to be friends for a very long time.
We
spent every Sunday enjoying each others company from then on.
And each Sunday I would stay in Rotterdam a little longer then the Sunday
before. His company was such a pleasure and the time just flew by.
We fast became friends of the best kind. Little did I know that we
would grow so completely in love with one another.
We
had, and still have, a lot of obstacles to hurdle over. Believe me, being two continents and an ocean apart, is NOT the easiest
way to have a good relationship. But so far, we are making it just
fine.
Since
that first summer of our friendship, I have been back to Nederland 12
times.
This
year, 2007, marks 9 years of "togetherness". We tease, that we
started out spending a Sunday afternoon together, and we have spent them
together ever since, be it in person, or communicating via internet chat.
